Essential Navigation and Seamanship
A two day RYA course is aimed at anyone new to sailing or motor boating, including RIBs and other small powerboats, sea angling and diving. It is also useful for experienced dinghy and keelboat sailors and inshore racers. The course can also be a good refresher for others with more experience.

- Passage planning, charts and position plotting
- Safety, including engine checks, buoyage, tidal awareness
- Visual navigation and pilotage
- Rules of the road
- Electronic navigation
- Anchoring
- Weather forecasts

Short Range Radio Certificate (SRC)
The course trains students to operate a VHF radio fitted With Digital Selective Calling (DSC). Its aim is to teach (through practical Icom Radio simulation) students to use the Global Marine Distress Safety System (GMDSS). Students’ will be sent pre-course reading and a minimum of 3 hours home study prior to the course is recommended. Assessment is made by an external RYA Examiner at the end of the course.
This is a relaxed and enjoyable course.
